As I have said, he's fearless
Just a few more examples of our boy being a boy. He knows no limits!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
It started snowing at about 4:20 this afternoon and it is still going strong. I love snow! Tonight we had a Christmas party with Sonshine Kids and Lauren had a lot of fun. We first ate at McDonalds and then we went to The Mudpie Company and painted some Christmas ornaments. Lauren painted a stocking for herself and a star for Justin. I will post pictures when we get them back. On our way home Lauren and I were watching the snow come down and I said "This is crazy, it is not supposed to snow in Texas." Her reply was, "Maybe God forgot that it doesn't snow in Texas!" Out of the mouths of babes. Kids are great! Enjoy the pictures of our snow and the video of Justin dancing with the snowman.

Through the tears
Yesterday was a very emotional day. As we were driving to see my sister, Lauren was listening to a CD of music for a Christmas program she is in at church. She was singing every song with such joy and enthusiasm and I loved listening to her. I started crying while I was driving just thinking about the love she already has for Jesus. It makes me so proud of her and makes me think we are at least doing one thing right as parents.
After that emotional drive and after spending time with my sister I was on the road again to my grandmother's house for a Thanksgiving celebration with my family. Jason called me (he was unfortunately not with us) and told me that Nanny, his grandmother who has been ill, was not doing well. As soon as I got off the phone with him, the song "The Dance" by Garth Brooks started playing on the radio. At that moment I once again started to cry and I knew in my heart that Nanny had passed and had gone to be with the Lord in his kingdom. When I talked to Jason later, I found out that she had passed just 5 minutes earlier. We will truly miss her, but we know she is in a better place and we will be with her again.
Lauren always says a special prayer for Nanny when we say her bedtime prayers. She always asks God to help Nanny and take away her pain. She also often asks us if Nanny is with Jesus yet. When I told her yesterday that Nanny had gone to be with Jesus, she said "I am sad that I can't see Nanny anymore." My sentiments exactly. Nanny truly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The first time Jason brought me to meet her, she welcomed me as a part of her family as she did to so many others. I feel so blessed to have had her in our lives. There is much comfort in the fact that she is now watching over us and one day we will be with her again. She lived her life to serve the Lord and she has anxiously been waiting to join him. Yesterday was a glorious day for Nanny.
John 14:1-3
Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
Matthew 5:4
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Fearless
I can't believe we are already two weeks into November. The last 3 months of the year always seem to go so fast. Except for today, when it rained all day (which we needed), the weather has been great. It just makes me want to be outside all day. The kids love it too. We have been spending more time outside recently and Justin has discovered slides. It first happened at Chucky Cheese where they have a slide just his size. He started diving down it head first and would try to climb back up. Every time I sat him at the top of the slide he just dove down it. He has continued to do that with all other slides. He just loves it! He is such a boy.

Lauren on the other hand is such a girly girl. She also loves playing outside and going headfirst down the slide, but as you can see, she follows it up with a super bubbly bath. And as she illustrates in her painting, her world is all flowers under rainbows with a bright sun in a blue sky. Just as I want it to be for her!

Halloweens Past
Here is a look at some of our past Halloween costumes. Enjoy!

Dawn - Little Gypsy

Jason- Little Devil, Clown, Pirate

Raggedy Ann & Andy (the college years), Dawn-Lightning Victim, Jason-Elvis (Halloween Murder Mystery Dinner)
From looking at all of Jason's old pictures, I have discovered that he had an obsession with clowns. I think he was a clown for Halloween 4 different years. He told me he actually wanted to be a clown when he grew up.
These next pics aren't actually from Halloween, they were just great costume pictures that I had to show. I am sure Jason is going to love me for this! The two pics of Jason are costumes that he wore when he was a counselor at Aggie Fish Camp. He actually made the front page of Bryan's newspaper The Eagle with the Hawaiian costume. The picture of both of us is from a 70's Murder Mystery Dinner with some friends.

Amen
Before we eat any meal we say a prayer as a family. Justin is starting to join in. The last couple of times after we have said Amen he says something that sounds similar to Amen. Tonight he even clasped his hands together. Just to be sure that is what he was doing we said the prayer several times and he did the same thing every time. It is such a joy to see our whole family joining together in prayer.

Step by Step
Justin took 10 steps tonight. He is getting steadier each day. Look out, here he comes!

Slow down please!!!!
Justin has been letting go and standing on his own for long moments at a time. He has been able to take one step and then falls. Tonight, he stood for a while and then took two steps. It brought tears to my eyes. I am not exactly sure why, but I think it was a combination of joy at seeing such an accomplishment from my child and also sadness that he is getting more independent and needing his mommy's help a little less everyday.
Lauren also showed us her own little grown up moment tonight. She goes to Sonshine Kids at our church on Wednesday nights, which is where the kids learn about God through games, choir, hand chimes, crafts, musicals, and Bible devotions. She always has a lot of fun and there was a little girl that she usually played with all the time. Tonight she informed us that she was not playing with her anymore that she had a new friend that she liked to play with, a little boy. We asked if he was her boyfriend and she said yes. Of course, she is thinking he is a boy and he is her friend. We ate dinner with this little boy's family after church a couple of weeks ago and he and Lauren sat next to each other and talked the whole time. Apparently since then they have been buddies. She told us tonight that we needed to send him an invitation to her birthday party because she wanted to make sure he came. Of course, that is no time soon but she is always planning it. We are going to have our hands full with her over the next 15 years.

My baby boy is getting big :(
Pre Haircut (hair wet down )

Before and After
Lauren by the MSC in College Station
Well it finally happened. Justin got his first haircut today by his Aunt April. Although it was much needed, it has made me quite sad. He just looks so different! His cute little curl is gone and his hair looks so much lighter. He looks so much older with his big boy haircut. Every time I look at him I feel a little sad that he is growing up so fast. But of course, I am enjoying every minute of it.
On a different note, this past weekend Lauren and Jason had a daddy and daughter day and they went to the Aggie vs Texas Tech football game together. I think they both had a great time just the two of them. When Lauren got home she told me that she cheered really hard but the Aggies still lost. Daddy had her making ugly faces at all the cars with Texas Tech fans on the drive to College Station. That is a great lesson, thanks daddy! Justin and I also had a great day just the two of us!

Like Totally!
Tonight I had pokeno with a group of fun loving ladies. Being that it is close to Halloween, it was decided that people should dress up in costumes or wear Halloween shirts. Last month our pokeno night was going to be an 80's theme, so we just let that carry over to this month since Ike decided to interfere with our get together. That being said, out of 15 ladies, only three of us were brave enough to dress up and we went 80's. I sure am glad that styles have changed, because not only were the styles hideous, but fixing your hair like that is a pain and not all that comfortable. I am sure I got some looks driving to the party. I was in Jason's car that has no tinting on any windows so everyone could get a good view of my lovely hair and makeup. At least they couldn't see my pants! Enjoy the picture!
